mselect is looking to hire a Production Operations Technician – WIP for an international oil and gas operator in Basrah. Candidates must have a minimum of 5  years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry and be fluent in English and Arabic.

Job Objective
The primary function of this position is to perform skilled operations duties, in a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) including monitoring, operating and adjusting equipment. Additionally, an employee in this role performs data collection and reporting functions to ensure compliance with the plant operating standards. This position will be required to work varied shifts throughout the year including nights, weekends and holidays as required

Key Responsibilities
  • Supports and complies with the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of the organization’s HSE Management System. Ensures HSE issues are given primary consideration in all activities undertaken within his area of responsibility
  • Operates, monitors and adjusts all Water Treatment Plant (WTP) systems, including the related distribution system
  • Performs daily rounds at the plant by visually checking facilities, equipment, machinery, chemical levels, and related systems to ensure proper operation and to detect equipment failures, potential leaks, or other problem situations
  • Monitors system operation by reading and interpreting test results, meter, gauge, control panel, and graph systems and adjusts as necessary to maintain optimum operational and water treatment standards
  • Monitors backwash sump, sludge thickening package and sludge liquors sump
  • Recognizes the need and makes treatment and operational changes to the Water treatment plant processes to meet water quality standards; shuts down and starts plant as necessary
  • Reads and interprets meters, water test results, gauges, and instruments; enters daily readings into computer database and/or spreadsheets
  • Takes water samples for lab tests and interpret test results to evaluate plant Water treatment plant operations and takes corrective actions as and when required
  • Prepares and maintains work records, including work orders, maintenance and repair logs, water pressure records, flow records, daily work logs, compliance reports and other documentation
  • Monitors inventory levels of equipment, chemicals and supplies; estimates usage and maintains inventory
  • Unloads/loads and stores hazardous chemicals, batches and mixes hazardous chemical solutions and transfers bulk storage to day tanks for chemical injection operations
  • Reviews computerized operation and testing records to monitor RO membrane and other plant equipment condition
  • Assists with mechanical operations and repairs, including pump and valve maintenance, deaerator, RO unit, and submerged filter and membrane and filters change outs
  • Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment, and tools in operable condition
  • Maintains communication with maintenance and contractor staff regarding daily activities to ensure safe operations in area of responsibility
  • Responsible for guiding and mentoring less experienced operators and helpers

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • 12 Years schooling followed by a 2 years Petroleum technical institute in one of the following specialties: Operations and Control, Production, Gas technology, Pumps and turbines
  • Experience with Commissioning, Start-up, Shut-down, operations, Trouble shooting of water treatment plants
Skills:
  • Methods, equipment, materials, tools, and standard practices for the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of a water treatment, filtration, deaeration, RO and other water treatment facilities
  • Methods of sampling and interpretation of water analysis results
  • Testing and monitoring equipment used in water treatment plant
  • Basic maintenance procedures, including equipment, pumping systems, filtration, deaeration, and valves related to operation of a water treatment facilities
  • Chemical processes, including monitoring and adjustments, used in a water treatment facility
  • Safety practices in operation of electrical and mechanical equipment used in water treatment facilities
  • Equipment and tool operation and maintenance practices
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in a water treatment facility
  • Follow written and oral instructions in English
  • Read and interpret technical and operational manuals, papers, and diagrams
  • Read and interpret meters, gauges, control panels and testing and monitoring equipment
  • Inspect machinery, equipment, and mechanical systems in operation to detect flaws and defects
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations in order to calculate quantities and chemical injection rates in processing facilities
  • Operate sampling and testing equipment
  • Communicate effectively with the public, contractors, and other employees
