mselect is looking for a Senior AP/ AR Accountant for a well-known international oil and gas operator in Basrah. Candidates must have a minimum of 7- 8 years of experience in accounting/ finance; 4-5 years of experience in the upstream Oil & Gas financial operations is highly preferred. Fluency in English is a must.
 
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior AP/ AR Accountant will be responsible for supporting the processing activities of vendor invoice, vendor credit note, affiliate invoice processing within Accounts Payable. Utilization of established SAP system for general ledger, entering timely accounts payable subledger entries, requesting AP voucher approval.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the reconciliation and provision of ad hoc AP reports as required including any KPI's and AP performance
  • Follow-up and support on overdue vendor invoices by identifying and resolving issues timely or escalating to Section Head Accounts Payable for support and guidance
  • Prepare vendor account reconciliations as may be required. To respond to vendors regarding reconciliation of their statement of account with our AP ledgers, identifying any errors and missing invoices for follow up by either the vendor of by Accounts Payable team
  • Support the Section Head Accounts Payable for effective & timely month end close AP deliverables
  • Ensure reconciliation between Head Office and Branch books is always tied up
  • Ensure Revenue accounting is recorded in SAP
  • Broad interactions with all Dept's, Budget Holders, Finance Team, CPL Team, and audit
  • Ensure valid invoices are entered into the system, necessary approvals received, and vendor payments processed for payment on a timely basis according to agreed payment terms
  • Ensure all invoices are reviewed and accompanied with respective supporting documents to ensure validity of the invoices and ensure cost recovery
  • Ensure completion of required details per invoice checklist and approvals obtained timely to support vendor invoice payment processing
  • Ensure new vendor additions follow the finance procedure for the adding of new vendor in SAP
  • Follow-up with User Dept and Budget Holders for timely review and approval of vendor invoices and invoice requirements
  • Follow-up with CPL dept and user department for any outstanding supporting documentation including PO/Contract ensuring contract validity
  • Follow-up and ensure all invoices are timely entered in SAP, finance AP data reconcile with vendor record
  • Follow-up with defaulting vendors and clear due payments timely, to ensure that the operations are not impacted
  • Process timely any intercompany debit notes for payment processing, ensuring supporting documentation is available
  • Process timely any approved credit notes received from vendors. Processing of any debit notes or other adjustments within the AP subledgers requires advance written approval of Section Head Accounts Payable
  • Maintain close coordination with Baghdad office accountant for day-to-day activities and support and guide him where necessary
  • Maintain close coordination with vendors to address any invoice related issues in a timely manner
  • Ensure accounts payable related accounting records are being properly stored in both hard and soft copies. Ensure filing is as per best industry practices and in line with the requirements of applicable agreements
  • Ensure revenue related entries pass in SAP on timely manner and keep proper record for reconciliation with A/R
  • Prepare AP related reports as per due date and closely coordination with Section Head AP
  • Maintain a close coordination with audit team, will be focal person for audit from AP section
  • Ensure that vendor invoices include relevant cost coding and AFE number (where applicable) and the GL account codes are correctly applied per the AP voucher per the established policies and cost allocation methodology to ensure expenses are allocated correctly to the respective AFE/cost centres and Capex or OPEX classifications
  • Ensure collection of Accounts Payable (employees and vendors) data and timely input into the financial system via the Senior Document Controller
  • Ensure close deadlines for monthly closing are met for Accounts Payable processing
  • Ensure the accounting and maintenance of records is in accordance with established cost recovery principles as per applicable regulations in Iraq and Industry best practices
  • Prepare as required, monthly reconciliation of invoices payables with Vendor's statement of account
  • Preparation of ad hoc vendor AP status reports as may be requested including Monthly, Quarterly, Annual AP Performance reports and KPI's
  • Preparing vendor reconciliation per vendor statement versus IDEAS Accounts Payable subledger records
  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities for the continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices to increase productivity and operational efficiency
  • Implement all relevant policies, processes, procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner
  • Follow all relevant company's health, security, safety and environmental policies, processes, procedures and instructions to ensure Health and Safety compliance in all aspects of work by applying them on self, others and corporate assets
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced Excel financial analysis skills
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Asset's financial policies and regulations
  • Good working knowledge of E&P accounting, IFRS, external statutory audit, JV partner audits
  • Good working knowledge of indirect taxes; including withholding taxes
  • Good working knowledge of ERP systems Oracle & SAP preferred
  • Effective Interpersonal, Verbal, and Written Communication Skills
  • Good Analytical Capabilities and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Local Regulatory Policies
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Fully qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CPA/CMA or equivalent)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Over all 7-8 years of experience
  • 4-5 years of experience in the upstream Oil & Gas financial operations preferred
