ROLE SYNOPSIS
The Environmental Engineer oversees the operation of the field waste center, including the daily management of the contractor personnel employed to operate the waste management center.ย The role includes the co-ordination of waste transfer from operating segments within the field to the waste management utilizing the operations contractor.ย The role ensures conformance at the waste management center to the standard operating procedures and control of work standards (as Area Authority), and upholds the standards set in the field waste management procedure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads the daily operation and implementing Annual Operation Plan (AOP), coordinating the safe waste collection and disposal for all operations in and outside the field.ย Includes daily planning and scheduling, managing the ad hoc and annual maintenance of the waste processing equipment and site infrastructure
- Responsible for the daily safe and e?cient operation of the Waste Center, Control of Work (CoW) permit to work as Area Authority and CoW Coordinator, and the implementation of daily routine activities in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Supporting and promoting environmental management agenda and ensures compliance with HSE How We Manage Waste Procedure and Practices
- Supervising the contractors working to ensure the safe and e?cient operation of the waste center and the continued processing of waste
- Working with operations teams to ensure that waste streams generated during work activities are correctly segregated, transported and disposed of, especially in relation to hazardous wastes
- Working with operations and the environment team, implement and maintain HSE How We Manage Waste Procedure and seek to develop this to maximize the waste streams that can be processed
- Planning and scheduling maintenance activities for the waste processing equipment, ensuring that site Control of Work standards are maintained
- Maintain accurate records of the performance and report these to operations
- Preparing environmental incident reports and participate in environmental non-compliance incident investigations
- HSE and Technical Documents Reviewer for the Operations, Planned TAR Maintenance and Infrastructure upgrade tasks
REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in Science or Engineering, Environmental bachelorโs degree and/or NEBOSH EMC is preferred
- Experience in waste management operation and waste processing equipment site is preferred
- Good understanding of Iraqi environmental legislation and international best practice, awareness of ISO 14001
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team player
- Good spoken and written standard in Arabic and English
- Good presentation and persuasion skills with effective communication skills
- IT literate with excellent understanding and practical application of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to recognize and to work within own limitations, seeking help from colleagues where appropriate
- High degree of initiative, energy and motivation to succeed
