Position Description:
Provides functional direction to employees working in the field, supervises contractor crew in assigned areas, monitors soil mix preparation for different plant categories from propagation cutting to seed germination, supervises propagation techniques and selection and maintenance of indoor plants. Assists technical crew in identifying plants through their scientific and botanical names, and coordinates landscaping activities. Analyses and forecasts materials used in greenhouses/nursery operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Works with a high degree of independence, receives broad guidance & direction from the Division or Unit head, as applicable. As an expert on agriculture/horticulture, provides technical advices and guidance to all gardening, landscaping, golf course and nursery staff on plant production programs, landscaping projects, gardening maintenance, new plant varieties, routine pest control and other activities related to Gardening
- Provides functional support to other CS areas on technical know-how and skills in effective gardening maintenance and project implementation and planning
- Directs research and experiments to identify land use problems, suitable plant varieties, techniques for nursery operations, best methods for planting, spraying, cultivating, harvesting, storing, processing, or transporting agricultural/horticultural products, as well as pest/weed management
- Provides guidance on planning & developing community projects, develops programs which will achieve quality landscaping designs, effective implementation and possible cost reduction
- Designs work programs for implementation by the Gardening, Landscaping and Nursery personnel
- Reviews and advises staff in the performance of their duties, preparing periodic reports for supervisory review regarding work performance
- Provides guidance on programs for training staff personnel on latest agricultural/horticultural technology or methodologies including plant insect/pest control
- Coordinates & implements Integrated Pest Management programs to control horticultural &agricultural pests in all landscaped areas including residences. Advises & instructs on plant pest control
- Conducts surveys, collects samples & studies plant pests & materials to improve control efforts
- Studies soil characteristics and develops improved measurement techniques, soil conservation methods, soil sampling devices, or other technologies
- Consults with engineers or other technical personnel working on projects about the effects of soil problems and their possible solutions
- Plans and supervises land conservation and reclamation programs for industrial development projects, and waste management programs for composting and landscaping
Minimum Requirements:
- Broad knowledge of agricultural theories & practices and methods of applying modern landscaping, and gardening techniques
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate activity reports to superior and to make presentations among gardening staff
- Special Field Experience In agricultural production, nursery management and landscaping in arid areas
- Bachelor of Science Agriculture and Natural Resources Agriculture (Gen)
