mselect is looking to hire a Petrophysicist for an oil and gas service client in Baghdad. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and be fluent in English and Arabic.
 
JOB OBJECTIVE
Study and analyse the chemical and physical properties of oil and gas deposits, including the surrounding rocks and soil. They collect and examine data about these reservoirs including, rock density, pore pressure, electrical and acoustic properties of the rock and the level of radioactivity. The data they collect can be used to estimate how porous the rocks are, the volume of oil and/or gas present and whether it can be extracted.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducting laboratory research to improve oil recovery methods, including developing new extraction techniques or improving existing ones
  • Conducting research to improve current oil recovery methods or develop new methods for extracting oil from depleted wells
  • Consulting with oil companies about the geology of oil deposits around the world
  • Conducting geological surveys of mining sites to determine the best places to drill for oil or natural gas reserves
  • Conducting fieldwork to locate new oil reserves or monitor the progress of existing oil wells
  • Evaluating data from seismic tests to estimate the size of an underground reserve of oil or gas
  • Analysing data from drilling operations, including the chemical composition of the rock and fluid samples and the pressures encountered during drilling
  • Conducting computer simulations to model the behaviour of fluids in porous materials, such as rocks containing oil or gas deposits
  • Conducting research on enhanced recovery techniques, such as carbon dioxide injection or steam injection, to increase oil production from existing wells
 
KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geophysics or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field
  • Knowledge in petrophysical modelling
  • Knowledge of oilfield exploration practices and technologies
  • Ability to make timely decisions
