Job Purpose
The Warehouse Keeper is responsible for managing the storage, organization, and inventory of goods within the warehouse. They ensure all products are safely stored, accurately logged, and readily accessible for distribution. The role includes receiving, inspecting, and storing products, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring that all warehouse operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management:
- Receive, check, and document incoming goods and materials
- Store products in the correct locations within the warehouse
- Maintain accurate records of all items in the warehouse using inventory management systems
- Perform regular inventory counts and reconcile physical stock with digital records
Order Fulfilment:
- Pick and prepare items for orders according to shipping branches or customer requirements
- Ensure that items are packed securely and labelled correctly
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods
Warehouse Organization:
- Maintain an organized and clean warehouse environment
- Ensure that all materials and products are stored safely and efficiently to maximize space
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines to minimize risks
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all warehouse operations comply with safety standards, including proper handling of hazardous materials if applicable
- Regularly inspect equipment and work areas for safety hazards
- Report any safety violations or potential issues to management
Equipment Handling:
- Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, following safety protocols
- Ensure the equipment is well-maintained and report any malfunctioning equipment
Shipping and Receiving:
- Coordinate with delivery services for the shipping and receiving of goods
- Inspect incoming goods for quality and quantity, and report discrepancies
- Prepare shipping documentation, such as invoices and shipping labels
Team Collaboration:
- Work with other warehouse staff, supervisors, and managers to ensure smooth workflow
- Assist in training new warehouse employees when needed
Problem Solving:
- Address inventory discrepancies, damaged goods, or misplaced items and report them to management
- Solve issues related to stockouts, overstocking, or inaccurate order fulfilment
Requirements
- Proven experience as a warehouse keeper, storekeeper, or in a similar role
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Forklift certification may be required (or willingness to obtain)
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Basic math skills for inventory tracking and order processing
- Physical stamina to handle heavy lifting and long hours on your feet
Working Conditions
- Warehouse environment, requiring standing, walking, and lifting
- Shift work may be required depending on the organization's needs
- It may require working in varying temperatures, depending on the warehouse
