Job Purpose
The Senior Directional Drilling will be responsible for leading and executing Mechanical Radial Drilling (MRD) operations at the rig site. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of services while supervising junior crew members and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise MRD operations at the wellsite, managing a 12-hour shift and overseeing Field Specialists
- Prepare, maintain, and operate equipment and inventory in coordination with the Lead Engineer
- Ensure compliance with QHSE standards, company policies, and professional ethics
- Mentor, train, and develop junior engineers, field specialists, and technicians
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, rig supervisors, suppliers, and third parties
- Foster teamwork between field crews, workshops, and operations management
- Represent the company professionally to clients, promoting a safe and cooperative rig-floor environment
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical/operational challenges, proposing improvements where necessary
- Take ownership of service quality, delivery, and performance at the rig site
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- 5–10 years’ oilfield experience, including both MENA and international exposure
- Strong track record of technical achievements and leadership
- Excellent communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency preferred
- Demonstrated QHSE commitment with relevant training
- Creative problem-solving ability and technical innovation experience
- Willingness to travel frequently within MENA and internationally
- Previous experience with a major service company preferred
- Exposure to projects involving multiple Oil & Gas operators
- Strong rig site and drill-floor experience with proven safety and operations knowledge
- Background in workover, side-tracking, and wellsite supervision
- Knowledge of directional drilling operations and related technologies
- Experience in preparing equipment and leading onsite personnel
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering and well-drilling practices
- Hands-on expertise in tool running, well interventions, coiled tubing, and surface equipment (e.g. triplex pump stations)
- Knowledge of reservoir stimulation and production enhancement techniques
