Job Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer is accountable for the good performance of the mechanical equipment, aiming for a safe, optimised, cost-efficient and reliable performance of the plant, in compliance with the relevant policies, to ensure the correct execution of the operation and maintenance activities of the solar plant.
Main Activities
- Responsible for ensuring all mechanical operations and maintenance activities comply with the relevant HSE policy
- Responsible for optimization and continuous improvement of plant performance and availability, as well as investigating and remediating plant under-performance or under-availability
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability and safety of production operations
Operational Activities
- Actively participate in the commissioning activities and start-up sequence, and provide technical support
- Ensure issuance of mechanical punch points and supervise closure with the EPC team
- Ensure with the EPC team that all project deliverables, O&M manuals, procedures, documentations, spare parts, and warranties will be handed over to Solar at the Provisional Acceptance Date of Unit 1
- Participate in the preparation of the specific maintenance contracts and relevant technical recommendations
- Responsible for the preparation of the mechanical operating procedures, work instructions and the scope of work for mechanical works
- Responsible for annually defining and updating the mechanical maintenance plans of Solar, aiming for optimal performance and cost of the plant
- Propose new mechanical maintenance procedures for obsolescence management
- Provide technical expertise and support to the O&M team performing the Root Cause Analysis of the incidents or underperformances, taking initiative to resolve, monitoring the resolution, managing technical warranties and claims and/or contractors
- Perform regular site visits to follow up and to improve technical support to the subcontractors during the operational phase
- Contribute to the continuous improvement process of the O&M activities
- Responsible for thorough claim management in interaction with ad hoc legal resources
- Define, in collaboration with the Warehouse Manager and the Leader Technicians, the annual purchasing strategy in terms of spare parts related to Solar’s mechanical equipment, aiming for an optimization of the spare part management strategy
- In coordination with the Warehouse Manager, review and control the standardization of mechanical materials and spare parts, as well as stock quantities, usage and consumption for preventive and corrective defect maintenance
Other Activities
- Ensure and promote the use of the relevant rules and standards throughout the position’s responsibilities and activities
- Companioning/training of local junior Iraqi mechanical engineers and development of the training plan from a mechanical discipline standpoint
- Define and organize all the mechanical training the subcontractor’s team must follow
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 8 years of experience in a mechanical engineering team or mechanical maintenance team
- Strong understanding of power plant operation and maintenance; experience in solar power plant operation and maintenance is a plus
- Strong understanding of solar plant operations, equipment, engineering and maintenance best practices
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- The jobholder shall be prepared to work in a remote area and be self-motivated
- Demonstrates strong autonomy and professional rigour in work execution
- Fluency in Arabic and English
