mselect is looking to hire an Operations and Maintenance PV Engineer for an international energy client in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the O&M of solar projects. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.

Job Purpose
The Operation and Maintenance PV Engineer is accountable for implementing and improving the maintenance plans, aiming for a safe, optimised, cost-efficient and reliable performance of the plant, in compliance with the relevant policies, to ensure the correct execution of the operation and maintenance activities of the solar plant.

Main Activities
  • Responsible for ensuring the operation and maintenance activities comply with the relevant HSE policy
  • Responsible for optimization and continuous improvement of plant performance and availability, as well as detecting, investigating and remediating plant under-performance or under-availability through the monitoring tools
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability and safety of production operations

Operational Activities
  • Actively participate in the commissioning activities, performance tests and start-up sequence and bring technical support
  • Ensure issuance of Operation & Maintenance punch points and supervise closure with the EPC team
  • Ensure with the EPC team that all project deliverables, O&M manuals, procedures, documentations, spare parts, and warranties will be handed over to Solar at the Provisional Acceptance Date of Unit 1
  • Participate, in collaboration with the Procurement & Contract Manager, in the preparation of the specific maintenance contracts and relevant technical recommendations
  • Prepare the operations of Solar, including planning with the various relevant teams
  • Based on the O&M and OEM manuals and in collaboration with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, prepare, optimize, and continuously improve the annual preventive maintenance program to enhance the technical-economic efficiency
  • Responsible for working closely with the Grid Operator in developing the overall annual planning
  • Ensure compliance with the production activities with safety and environmental rules in coordination with the HSE Engineer
  • Perform regular site visits to follow up and to improve technical support to the subcontractors during the operational phase
  • Responsible for the development of the operations policies and procedures, together with their efficient implementation and follow-up in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Responsible for the technical interface with manufacturers in coordination with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
  • Attend the root cause analysis (RCA) on process incidents and, in collaboration with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, recommend corrective actions, updates and retrofits to permanently eliminate them
  • Responsible for thorough claim management in interaction with ad hoc legal resources
  • Contribute to establishing the management tools (PTW, CMMS, TIM…) and their upgrades of the Solar plant
  • Responsible for the daily, weekly, monthly and annual production reports
  • Define, in collaboration with the Warehouse Manager, the Electrical Engineer, the Mechanical Engineer and the Leader Technicians, the annual purchasing strategy in terms of spare parts, aiming for an optimization of the spare part management strategy
  • In coordination with the Warehouse Manager, review and control the standardization of materials and spare parts as well as stock quantities, usage and consumption for preventive and corrective defect maintenance

Other Activities
  • Ensure and promote the use of the relevant rules and standards throughout the position’s responsibilities and activities
  • Define and organize all the operational trainings the subcontractor's team must follow
  • Companioning/training of local junior Iraqi O&M engineer and development of the training plan from an operation and maintenance discipline standpoint

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the Operation and Maintenance of solar projects
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, especially for energy generation or transmission
  • Strong understanding of solar plant operations, equipment and engineering best practices
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • The jobholder shall be prepared to work in a remote area and be self-motivated
  • Demonstrates strong autonomy and professional rigour in work execution
  • Fluency in Arabic and English
