Job Purpose
The Leader Technician is accountable for the correct execution of Solar’s operation and maintenance strategy, aiming for a safe, optimised, cost-efficient and reliable performance of the plant, in compliance with the relevant policies. The leader technician could work either during the day or during the night.
Main Activities
- Responsible for ensuring the operation and maintenance activities are following the relevant operational strategy
- Supervise and coordinate the subcontractor teams to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Solar plant in strict compliance with the relevant operating procedures, HSE rules and any relevant statutory legislation to maintain the solar plant in sound, safe operating condition and high reliability
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability and safety of production operations
- Coordinate the actions and workload of the subcontractor team and evaluate the subcontractors according to their objectives
- Provide leadership and guidance to the subcontractor team in a multi-cultural environment
- Promote safety culture and impeccable business ethics through leading by example
- Responsible for defining the training plans to ensure the subcontracted personnel are adequately trained and capable of operating and maintaining the plant
Operational Activities
- Actively participate in the commissioning activities, performance tests and start-up sequence and bring technical support
- Ensure issuance of Operation & Maintenance punch points and supervise closure with the EPC team in collaboration with the O&M Engineer, Mechanical Engineer and Electrical Engineer
- Ensure that personnel have all the necessary materials and equipment/tools to carry out individual tasks
- Provide expertise in maintenance to the subcontractor's team, challenge and validate the contractor’s deliverables
- Review and check the quality of any work carried out by contractors by means of inspections and audits to ensure it has been efficiently executed to an acceptable standard
- Maintains a permanent anticipation of the potential problems that could occur on Solar, to prevent or minimise equipment downtime
- Analyse failures and submit reports of analysis and root cause investigations, and propose corrective actions and improvements after any equipment malfunctions, damages or failures
- Update the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) with the information of the work performed, the work orders, the technical reports and the man-hours
- Responsible for checking the daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance reports provided by the subcontractor team
- Define, in collaboration with the Warehouse Manager, the Electrical Engineer, the Mechanical Engineer and the O&M Engineer, the annual purchasing strategy in terms of spare parts, aiming for an optimization of the spare part management strategy
- Ensure the spare parts stock levels are adequate and that materials/equipment received are within specifications
- In coordination with the Warehouse Manager, review and control the standardization of materials and spare parts as well as stock quantities, usage and consumption for preventive and corrective defect maintenance
- Forecast the requirements for consumables replenishment
- Oversee the preparation of permits to work in close liaison with the Permit to Work Officer
Other Activities
- Participate, in collaboration with the Procurement & Contract Engineer and the O&M Engineer, in the preparation of the specific maintenance contracts and relevant technical recommendations
- In collaboration with the O&M Engineer, participate in the definition of the operational readiness of Solar, including planning and preparation of operations with the various relevant teams
- Assist the O&M Engineer with the preparation of the work instructions and operating manuals
- Support the O&M Engineer in the preparation, optimization and continuous improvement of the annual preventive maintenance program to enhance the technical-economic efficiency
- Participate in the updates of the operating and maintenance scheme according to Solar’s objectives
- Companioning/training of local junior Iraqi leader technicians and development of the training plan from an electrical and mechanical discipline standpoint
Requirements
- Degree in electrical or mechanical technology
- Expert in power plant operation and maintenance, with a minimum of 10 years of field experience in solar power plant operation and maintenance
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, especially for energy generation or transmission
- Strong understanding of solar plant operations, equipment and technical best practices
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- The jobholder shall be prepared to work in a remote area and be self-motivated
- Demonstrates strong autonomy and professional rigour in work execution
- Fluency in Arabic and English
