mselect is looking to hire a General Manager for a business consultancy client based in the UK. Candidates must have at least a minimum of 10 years of experience in business administration and management, and be fluent in English; Arabic knowledge is a plus.

 

JOB OBJECTIVE

This is a senior role within the organisation provided by the Board to the Management Team, to head up all aspects of member services and business administration. The incumbent in this role reports to the Managing Director and may on occasion act as Deputy with Delegated Authority in the absence of the Managing Director.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Primary Functions:

  • The Executive Management team of the client is designed to manage the two principle areas of activity

  • Council Policy/ Strategic Development/ relationships & influence - led on behalf of the Executive Committee by the Managing Director

  • Member Support Services - including events, support activities, networking and communications - led on behalf of the Managing Director by the General Manager

  • The primary duties of this role relate to the member support activities

  • Daily management of the business support teams in London & Baghdad

  • Primary contact with members to ensure they are participating and understanding Council activities, how they participate and achieve value and ensuring that the Council is enabled to understand and support them, where appropriate

  • Develop and delivering suitable Council events (conferences, sector tables, network and discussion opportunities, including webinars) in line with the Council’s annual objectives

  • Managing within budgets and agreed standards/objectives

  • Development & delivery of suitably approved commercial services, to create value for members and provide commercial income to the company

  • Development and delivery of suitable communications strategies to ensure that the work of the company, as set out by the MD, his business plan and the executive Council is shared with all appropriate interested parties

  • Implementation of the ‘Voice of the Member’ programme and regular reporting of membership opinion to the MD and Board

  • Manage external relationships for operational purposes

Secondary duties:

  • Attend events representing the Management and Council as a knowledgeable member of the company support team

  • Travel to Baghdad where required to work with the local team on the development of member potential in the region

  • Assist the MD & Strategic Development Manager in the development of business plans, and the insertion of objectives and KPI’s into the operations of the council’s management activities

Reporting:

  • This role reports directly to the company’s Managing Director

  • This role has the following roles reporting into it, with responsibility for their performance and development:

    • Event Co-ordinator

    • Jnr Events & General Administrator

    • Marketing Manager

    • Member Advisors (specialist consultants)

    • Regional Team in Baghdad


KEY REQUIREMENTS

General attributes for the recruitment and selection of suitable candidates:

  • Located in London and able to operate from the Westminster base

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in business administration and management (NGO sector or Trade Associations knowledge may be helpful)

  • Strong in business organisation and leadership

  • An understanding/ knowledge of international affairs (degree qualified)

  • A networking orientated individual who understands the value of relationships

  • Arabic speaking would be helpful, although not essential
