Role synopsis
The Senior Workover Wellsite Leader is an experienced leader and coach. The role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of workover and completion operations in the field, ensuring compliance with company standards. The Senior WSL strengthens the rig site team’s capabilities by ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards and best practices. This position promotes operational excellence and continuous improvement by capturing and implementing lessons learnt, optimizing execution strategies, and driving performance improvements across single or multiple rigs. The role also involves developing and mentoring junior Workover Site Leaders (WSLs) and rig crews on one or more workover rigs. Although primarily rig-site-based, the position may occasionally require filling temporary office-based roles. The Senior WSL reports to the Workover Delivery Team Leader or the Workover Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and promote a strong HSE culture
- Direct rig and service contractors to safely and efficiently execute the Workover Programme on specific rigs in accordance with the client’s standards and processes
- Workover Programme Review, feeding back operational lessons learned to facilitate continuous improvement
- Supervise complex workover challenges, propose solutions, assist with decision-making and problem resolution, and support other WSLs during critical operations, offering real-time feedback and strategies for optimizing performance
- Support well and site preparations for workover
- Responsible for accurate well-handover documentation and records
- Act as a technical resource, providing insights and recommendations on complex or unfamiliar challenges
- Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions to senior management regularly, providing strategic insights and recommendations to inform ongoing operations
- Lead and/or participate in incident investigations, following through to close-out as required
- Review incidents, near misses, and safety observations, sharing lessons learnt across all rigs. Implement safety improvement plans based on incident investigations and lessons learned from past operations
- Lead and/or participate in technical and safety audits, following through to close-out as required
- Conduct safety assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards on-site
- Provide coaching in technical skills, leadership, and decision-making to support WSLs in their growth and future leadership development
- Encourage open communication and knowledge-sharing among WSLs and rig teams to foster a collaborative work environment
- Maintain effective communication with senior management, providing updates on personnel development, operational challenges, and safety compliance
- Cultivate a supportive, respectful environment across all rigs, encouraging teamwork, mutual respect, and accountability
Requirements
- Earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in well site operations, particularly in workover, completions, or well intervention activities, with at least 5 years as a Workover Site Leader (WSL) and demonstrable leadership capability
- Valid IADC or IWCF supervisory-level Well Control certification
- Experience with land rig workover operations and planning, including well killing and well control, water shut-off, water injection, fishing, fracturing, stimulation, ESP operations, well integrity repair, and complex workover projects in challenging environments
- Strong knowledge of well intervention techniques, ESP operations, and completion strategies
- Proficient in safe working practices and good oilfield practices
- Proficient in workover program development, risk assessments, and troubleshooting
- Strong team player with exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and mentoring skills are required to be commensurate with the above job role
- Strong English language skills are required
- Good IT skills and experience with electronic well reporting systems
- Aptitude to innovate and be open to new ideas

- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and crisis-management skills
- Experience in contractor and stakeholder management
