Key Responsibilities
Management Accounting Function:
- Lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for multiple oil and gas projects
- Manage and oversee day-to-day accounting operations, general ledger review, account coding, accounting system data accuracy and completeness, trial balance, cash on hand and bank accounts, fixed asset register, inventories, AP and expenses
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting of AP, GL, cost accounting, expense recognition, taxes, and payroll
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the annual budget and ensure it is prepared on time
- Control actual versus budget analysis and reporting Report variances
- Maintains accounting system data and internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Ensure daily cash/bank balances agree with GL balances, and prepare monthly bank reconciliations
- Deliver internal and external financial reports for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. Substantiate reports with underlying source data. Delivers reports on time with accuracy internally (to management) or externally (to government, other stakeholders). Deliver reports in accordance with internal company reporting requirements and/or external reporting requirements
- Present key findings in financial data to senior management
- Coordinate with external auditors, government auditors, tax advisors, the Iraqi auditor and accountant, and regulatory bodies
- Ensure audit, tax, and Iraq statutory reporting deadlines are met
- Ensure month-end closure of the accounting system/GL Close annual trial balances and ensure accurate and complete capture of accounting transactions for the year
- Draft year-end accounts and draft financial statements for external auditors
- Manage and oversee accounting and finance operations for an oil and gas project
- Manage accounting, treasury, budgeting, and reporting staff in the finance department
- Oversee the annual budget process
- Ensures annual budgets are prepared on time, Monitors budget control
- Oversees cash flow positions and forecasts cash flow needs
- Performs due diligence on accounting documents, supplier bank accounts, and ultimate beneficiaries for payments
- Analyse intercompany transactions and ensure proper eliminations and reconciliations between group companies
- Liaises with the supply chain department, technical teams, and operations to understand the impact on the finance department
- Provides financial solutions to the head of the project and other departments
- Understanding operations and company strategies to make informed financial and money-related decisions
- Reports problems to senior management in a timely manner and provides recommendations. oriented communicator
Requirements
- Solid understanding of financial systems, and the ability to manage a team to ensure accuracy and compliance in all financial matters
- Minimum 10 years’ experience supporting oil company operations in a similar role. Iraq and the Middle East experience, oil and gas experience, are an asset
- Extensive experience in management accounting, controllership role, and finance department role
- Responds to management requests and deadlines on time with accuracy
- Works under pressure, delivers results, and improves processes
- Be a dependable Team player
- Experience and solid understanding in bookkeeping, accounting records, accounting documents, accounting workflow, internal controls, financial statements, financial reporting, audits, taxation, contracts
- CCPA, CPA, CA is an asset ERP experience is an asset
- Language requirements: English required, Arabic also preferred, Kurdish also preferred
