Truck Preparation for driving
What You’ll Learn
This VR training module is designed to equip you with the full set of procedures and safety checks required for preparing a truck and trailer for safe operation with a load. Developed by industry professionals, including NEBOSH-certified HSE experts, this training ensures that drivers and operators understand not only the mechanics of vehicle readiness, but also the importance of thorough pre-operation inspections.
Key learning outcomes include:
Reviewing and validating your work documents and driving permit
Conducting a 360-degree inspection of the truck and trailer
Checking critical systems such as engine fluids (oil, coolant), tyre condition, lighting systems, brakes, and leak detection
Verifying fifth-wheel coupling integrity and load security
Ensuring driver compliance with PPE requirements
Using checklists to ensure nothing is overlooked during the inspection process
Identifying and reporting mechanical issues or safety hazards before operation
Practising communication and coordination with co-workers during preparation
This training is suitable for logistics, transportation, and industrial workers who operate or supervise heavy vehicle operations, and reinforces safe habits before vehicles enter service.
The Scenario
The simulation begins in the briefing room, where you receive your documentation and work permit to proceed with the pre-driving inspection. You’ll then head out to the designated vehicle to conduct a comprehensive safety check.
Key steps include:
Inspecting oil levels, coolant, tyres, brakes, and exterior lighting systems
Checking for leaks, worn components, and proper signage
Confirming correct fit and function of driver PPE
Verifying fifth-wheel coupling and overall trailer attachment
Ensuring the engine and vehicle systems are functioning correctly
Using a detailed interactive checklist to guide and complete the inspection
Throughout both training and exam modes, various faults and issues are randomised to simulate realistic, unpredictable conditions—requiring you to adapt, identify problems accurately, and take appropriate action before clearing the truck for operation.
Training Format
Every VR module is designed to maximise engagement and retention, delivered across three structured phases:
Study Mode – Learn the theory
