Maintenance Safety (Pipes & Acids)
What You’ll Learn
This VR training prepares you for the safe shutdown and isolation of a chemical pipeline system, following internationally recognised safety standards including NEBOSH and ISO 45001. You’ll learn how to read technical documentation, apply safety protocols, coordinate with your team, and handle hazardous chemical processes with precision and care.
Key learning outcomes include:
Reviewing and interpreting pipeline schematics and flow diagrams
Selecting and wearing the correct PPE for chemical environments
Following a work permit process before starting any maintenance activity
Communicating effectively with team members using radios and signals
Performing safe shutdown procedures for pumps and valves
Applying Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) techniques to isolate pipeline sections
Monitoring and relieving residual pressure using pressure gauges
Executing a proper chemical wash-down of affected areas
Installing barriers and warning signage around the maintenance zone
Completing all post-task checks and reporting task closure to the control room
This training develops both your technical competencies and your operational discipline—ensuring that chemical pipeline maintenance tasks are executed with maximum safety and control.
The Scenario
You begin in the facility’s control room, where you’re required to select and wear the appropriate PPE for handling chemicals specific to the pipeline. After collecting and reviewing your work permit, you proceed to analyse the pipeline schematic, identifying the correct pumps and valves that need to be shut down.
Your tasks include:
Coordinating with the control room via walkie-talkie
Travelling to the machine room to perform manual Lockout/Tagout on designated valves
Using valve blockers, tags, and locks to fully isolate the pipeline
Placing barricade tape and signage to restrict access to the work zone
Monitoring pressure gauges to ensure all residual pressure is safely released
Conducting a chemical wash-down of any spills using water and appropriate tools
Returning to the control room to report task completion and clear the area for maintenance
The VR training environment offers full interaction with tools, components, and systems, allowing you to perform each step as you would in real-world operations—ensuring both competence and compliance in hazardous work environments.
Training Format
Every VR module is designed to maximise engagement and retention, delivered across three structured phases:
Study Mode – Learn the theory
Training Mode – Apply it in a guided environment
Exam Mode – Demonstrate your ability under pressure
All modules are fully localised in over 24 languages with native voice-overs, including:
