Load Slinging
What You’ll Learn
This VR training immerses you in the fundamentals of safe slinging and load handling in accordance with NEBOSH and ISO 45001 standards. You’ll learn how to assess lifting operations and select the correct equipment based on the weight, dimensions, and lifting requirements of the load.
Key learning outcomes include:
Reviewing the work permit and understanding the task’s technical requirements
Determining the appropriate type of sling (textile or chain/iron) based on load specifications
Inspecting and identifying damaged lifting tools, and selecting only equipment that is safe and certified for use
Positioning and attaching slings properly, including correct wrapping and hook placement
Performing an initial test lift to verify stability and identify any potential movement or load shift
Operating a remote-controlled crane system to transport the load safely across the site
Securing the perimeter and placing warning signs to prevent unauthorised access during the lift
This training builds both theoretical knowledge and practical decision-making skills, reinforcing the importance of precision, pre-task inspection, and procedural discipline in lifting operations.
The Scenario
The simulation places you inside a large industrial hangar, where you begin by collecting and reviewing the work permit, which outlines the task and the slinging method required. From there, you’ll:
Set up hazard tape and signage to secure the lifting zone
Inspect all lifting equipment and sort out any damaged or non-compliant tools, placing them in a designated box
Identify the correct sling type and lifting method based on the weight and dimensions of a large stack of metal sheets
Examine the cat-head hook, ensuring it's suitable and properly aligned
Execute a detailed slinging procedure, from securing the load to making a test lift to check for safe handling
Use the remote-control system to transport the load smoothly and safely across the facility
This realistic scenario reinforces technical accuracy, environmental awareness, and adherence to lifting safety protocols—key skills for anyone involved in crane or rigging operations.
