Hot Work
What You’ll Learn
This VR training equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to safely prepare for and conduct hot work operations in compliance with international safety standards such as NEBOSH and ISO 45001. You’ll take on the role of a team member reporting to a site supervisor, responsible for carrying out all required pre-task safety checks and precautions.
Key learning outcomes include:
Participating in a pre-job safety briefing with the site supervisor
Verifying the presence of required documents, including the Work Permit, Fire Safety Certificate, and Qualification Certificate
Wearing and inspecting the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Conducting a tool inspection, identifying damage or faults before use
Securing the hot work zone, including taping off the perimeter and placing clear warning signage
Analysing the gas-air environment to detect flammable or hazardous vapours
Removing flammable materials and ignition sources from the work area
Performing a final review of all safety measures before starting the task
This training builds both technical competence and procedural discipline, ensuring readiness to conduct hot work in high-risk environments safely and confidently.
The Scenario
The simulation begins with your arrival at the worksite, where you present your access documentation—including your fire safety and qualification certificates—to the supervisor. Once cleared, you’ll suit up in the correct PPE and begin inspecting all tools and equipment, some of which may be randomly damaged to enhance situational awareness and problem-solving.
Next, you’ll:
Mark and secure the work area using tape and warning signs
Scan the environment to check for flammable gases or unsafe atmospheric conditions
Remove combustible materials and unauthorised equipment from the hot work zone
Conduct a final safety check with your supervisor to confirm readiness for work
The scenario places you in a realistic team-based setting with multiple workers, reinforcing communication, compliance, and accountability—critical elements of safe hot work operations.
