mselect is looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Package and Rotating Equipment for an oil and gas operator in Erbil, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in oil and gas projects with a strong focus on rotating and packaged equipment. Fluency in English and Kurdish is a must.

Job Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for mechanical engineering activities focused on package and rotating equipment for surface facilities in a new oil and gas block. This includes involvement in conceptual design, front-end engineering (FEED), detailed engineering, procurement support, and interface coordination with other engineering disciplines and vendors. The engineer must ensure that all mechanical systems are designed and specified in compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical engineering work related to rotating and packaged equipment during Conceptual Design, FEED, and Detailed Engineering stages
  • Prepare and review mechanical specifications, datasheets, technical requisitions, and evaluations of vendor offers for rotating equipment such as gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, and reciprocating compressors; Screw compressors, diesel engines, electric motors, air compressors; Pumps (centrifugal, reciprocating, screw, diaphragm); Nitrogen generation units, chemical injection packages, process cooling systems, HVAC, Cathodic protection, etc
  • Perform technical bid evaluations and participate in vendor clarification meetings and FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests)
  • Review and approve vendor drawings and documentation for mechanical packages
  • Ensure mechanical systems comply with project specifications, applicable local and international codes (API, ASME, ISO), and best practices
  • Coordinate with process, instrumentation, electrical, and civil teams for interface alignment and design consistency
  • Support the development of plot plans and equipment layouts in collaboration with layout and piping teams
  • Contribute to risk assessments, HAZOP, HAZID, and 3D model reviews with respect to mechanical equipment arrangement, operability, and maintainability
  • Support construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities related to mechanical systems
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and support the operations and maintenance teams with technical expertise
  • Ensure that vendor-supplied equipment packages are fully integrated with project controls, safety systems, and instrumentation requirements

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in oil and gas projects with a strong focus on rotating and packaged equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of international standards (API 610, 617, 618, 619, ASME, ISO, etc)
  • Proven experience in specification, procurement, and detailed design of mechanical equipment for upstream facilities
  • Familiar with mechanical design tools and selection methodologies
  • Strong coordination, communication, and vendor management skills
  • Experience with brownfield modifications and greenfield developments is desirable
