mselect is looking to hire a Process Engineer for an international oil and gas operator in Basrah. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. English and Arabic fluency is a must.

Role Synopsis
The Process Engineer will be an integral part of the Engineering team and report to the Process Team Leader. The successful candidate will form part of a multidiscipline team delivering complex modifications, engineering studies and queries, oversight of third-party engineering contractors and supporting assurance and self-verification activities.

Key Accountabilities
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Become familiar with and practice the company’s Safety Leadership Principles
  • Lead and develop individual scopes of work – proposals for facility modifications (Management of Change) and Engineering Queries/ studies:
    • Liaise with initiators & stakeholders
    • Visit degassing stations/ worksites to perform surveys and obtain input from site teams
    • Execute engineering calculations & simulations to understand problems and define solutions
    • Develop required engineering documentation/ deliverables
    • Present proposals and incorporate feedback
  • Provide process engineering support to other departments & teams (e.g. Operations, Small Projects, Major Projects, Construction, TAR, Maintenance, Subsurface, HSE) as required
  • Provide front-end definition for larger work scopes to be executed outside of the Engineering team – e.g. preparation of Statement of Requirement and initiation of Projects
  • Review engineering deliverables prepared by third party engineering contractors as required
  • Assist the Process Team Leader in defining & maintaining facility operating envelopes, and tracking facility performance against Safe Operating Limits
  • Work closely with optimisation and area operations teams to identify debottlenecking opportunities and constraints, initiating debottlenecking projects as necessary
  • Assist in ensuring critical process engineering documentation & process safety information, including P&ID’s, Alarm & Trip Schedules, Cause and Effect Diagrams are accurate and kept up to date
  • Identify areas of improvement in safety, reliability, and efficient execution of work
  • Provide assurance on engineering compliance with applicable Standards, Specifications, Codes and Regulations. Ensure that non-conformities and temporary deviations are identified and raised to the relevant Technical Authority for review
  • Where necessary lead or participate in processes to manage operational process safety. Working closely with Process Safety engineers and the Area Operations teams on the following key aspects of process safety:
    • HAZID/HAZOP/”What-if” Hazard Assessments
    • Pre start up safety review (PSSR)
  • Provide procurement engineering support for material requisition development, bid evaluations and supplier documentation reviews
  • Communicate Process & Process Safety lessons learned to the Area/ site teams and encourage a culture of sharing experience and continuous improvement. Support the wider engineering team by gathering and communicating lessons learned in the course of engineering activities
  • Assist expatriates in driving the wider nationalisation agenda

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • Degree qualified engineer in Chemical/ Process Engineering or a closely related discipline
Essential experience and job requirements:
  • Extensive and relevant industry experience in brownfield Operations engineering support environments. At least 10 years Oil & Gas industry experience required; International experience and multicultural Operational roles across the full value chain of hydrocarbon and produced water / water injection facilities an advantage. Experience in brownfield engineering, reliability, and strong technical leadership with influencing capabilities
  • Candidate to demonstrate familiarity with all relevant industry codes, standards and practices (API, ASME, ISO), and relevant experience with key Process engineering tools such as Aspen HYSYS & Flare System Analyser, Schlumberger PIPESIM etc. Candidate should be able to perform own Process Engineering calculations and prepare technical reports wherever appropriate but understand when it is necessary to seek guidance and support from others
