Job Overview
The Supply Chain Manager in the dairy industry is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end supply chain process, ensuring the efficient movement of dairy products from farms to processing facilities and ultimately to consumers. This role involves managing procurement, production planning, inventory control, logistics, and distribution while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supply Chain Strategy Development: Develop and implement supply chain strategies that align with the company’s goals and regulatory requirements specific to the dairy industry
- Procurement Management: Oversee the procurement of raw materials (milk, cream, etc.), packaging materials, and other supplies necessary for dairy production
- Vendor and Supplier Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with dairy farms, suppliers, and vendors to ensure a reliable and high-quality supply of raw materials
- Production Planning: Coordinate with production teams to plan and schedule dairy processing activities to meet demand forecasts and minimize downtime
- Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to balance cost, demand, and shelf life
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all products meet stringent dairy industry quality and safety standards, including pasteurization and sanitation requirements
- Logistics and Distribution: Oversee logistics operations to ensure timely and efficient transportation, warehousing, and distribution of dairy products to retailers and customers
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all supply chain activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the dairy industry
- Demand Forecasting: Analyze market trends, sales data, and seasonal patterns to accurately forecast demand and adjust supply chain activities accordingly
- Sustainability Initiatives: Implement and promote sustainable practices within the supply chain to reduce environmental impact and support corporate sustainability goals
- Performance Metrics: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of the supply chain operations
- Cost Management: Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements within the supply chain without compromising quality
- Crisis Management: Develop and implement contingency plans to manage disruptions in the supply chain, such as raw material shortages or logistics issues
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in supply chain management, preferably in the dairy or food industry
- Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) are advantageous
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with supply chain management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and knowledge of dairy processing and quality control systems
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage complex supply chain processes
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with suppliers, team members, and stakeholders
- Leadership Skills: Proven leadership and team management abilities
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, USDA)
