Job Objective
Provision of a full spectrum of legal services in order to ensure the legal compliance of the daily operations of the company, protect the company's lawful rights from being infringed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Give accurate and timely counsel to the company in a variety of legal topics (labour law, commercial compliance, litigation & arbitration issue, oil & gas concession, international commercial law)
- Legal review of contracts and the due diligence of the transaction counterparty if necessary
- Draft agreements, contracts, and other legal documents as required to ensure the full legal rights of the company
- Participate in dispute resolutions and proceed with any litigation and arbitration arising therefrom
- Coordinate with and exert the proper guidance and control over outside legal counsel in processing any above legal affairs
- Fulfil any other work assigned by the Legal Manager and the direct superintendent
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, security, safety and environmental management policies, procedures and controls within own area, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating on a continuous basis, to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality service and a responsible environmental attitude
COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
- Take and execute any directions from the Legal Manager, Assistant Legal Manager or the Legal Affairs Section Head
- Communicate and collaborate with the colleagues in the user department of the legal services
- Communicate with Iraqi governmental authorities and/or judicial organs in respect of any legal issues
- Communicate and coordinate with Legal departments of the Participating Partners to the EDPSC in respect of any legal issues
- Communicate and coordinating with Legal departments, contracting and licensing departments of BOC and INOC in respect of any legal issues
- Communicate and collaborate with the outside legal service panel (Iraqi law firms and International Law firms) to provide the required legal services
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Law or related discipline from a recognized international university
- Bar Exam Certificate
- Qualifications on international accounting, finance or compliance will be considered an asset
- 8+ years of experience gained in a large law firm and/or in-house with a major company
- Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, litigations, labour law)
- Strong knowledge of all aspects of Oil & Gas Industry, familiar with the Best international Petroleum Industry Practice as well as the contracts in respect of drilling, well services and EPC projects
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization
- Strong planning, organizational skills and attention to detail, excellent Project management, planning and execution skills
- Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues
- Total fluency in English, English and Arabic bilingual communication ability is preferred
