mselect is looking to hire a Data Management Application Support for an international oil & gas operator in Basrah. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. English and Arabic fluency is a must.

Role Synopsis
  • Data Management (DM) contributes to every stage of the Upstream value chain and has the potential to make a significant impact on how efficiently & effectively our business operates
  • The Subsurface Application Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing technical support and expertise for subsurface applications used in the exploration and production of oil and gas resources. This position involves assisting geoscientists, reservoir engineers, and other stakeholders in the oil and gas industry with the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of specialized software applications used for subsurface data analysis, modeling, and reservoir management
  • The Data Specialist reports to the Subsurface Data Lead, this role will primarily provide Petro-technical data management database support across the Subsurface business

Key Accountabilities:
  • Application Support: Provide technical support for subsurface applications, including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and answering user inquiries. Collaborate with users to understand their needs and assist in optimizing their workflow within the software
  • Data Management: Facilitate data integration and management within the subsurface applications. Ensure data accuracy and consistency for effective interpretation and decision-making
  • Training and Documentation: Conduct training sessions and create user guides/documentation to help users effectively utilize the subsurface applications, maximizing their understanding of the software's capabilities
  • Software Updates and Upgrades: Coordinate software updates and upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to users' workflows and validating system functionality post- upgrade
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with vendors and internal IT teams to address technical issues, implement enhancements, and stay updated on the latest features and developments
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct testing and quality assurance of subsurface applications to identify and resolve potential bugs or issues before software deployment
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize software performance to enhance data processing speed and efficiency, improving overall user experience
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure that subsurface applications adhere to data security and compliance standards, safeguarding sensitive data and intellectual property
  • Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices related to subsurface applications, and implement relevant improvements and innovations

Criteria and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Geology, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of subsurface data, geophysical interpretation, reservoir modelling, and related concepts
  • Experience with subsurface software applications, such as Petrel, Eclipse, CMG, Landmark, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python) and familiarity with data manipulation and automation
  • Excellent problem-solving          skills and the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues
  • Strong communication skills to interact with various stakeholders, including geoscientists, engineers, and software developers
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure and networking concepts is beneficial
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry or similar domain is a plus
