Key Responsibilities
Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance:
- Review and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, Alignment Sheets, ISOs, GAs), specifications, and technical documents to ensure accurate implementation on-site
- Monitor and verify pipeline installation, welding, assembly, testing (hydrostatic, pneumatic, NDT), and backfilling activities for compliance with design, quality, and safety standards
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential issues, deviations, or non-conformances and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of pipeline materials and equipment
- Review and approve test packages and construction documentation
- Participate in construction process qualifications (e.g. HDD, Auger Boring, Crossings, field joint coating, bending)
- Support constructability studies and provide input on best practices
- Provide technical support and guidance to construction teams, contractors, and subcontractors
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation) to ensure seamless integration of pipeline deliverables
- Resolve site-based engineering challenges, technical queries, and discrepancies by working closely with construction and quality teams
- Contribute to the development and implementation of work procedures, standard design guides, specifications, and checklists
- Assist in identifying, preparing, and implementing project procedures
- Support project planning, scheduling, and progress reporting for pipeline construction activities
- Manage the 3rd party subcontractors' work that is outsourced
- Promote and ensure strict compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, and local regulations
- Conduct technical risk assessments and develop mitigation plans for potential hazards associated with pipeline operations
- Participate in safety reviews
- Foster a strong safety culture on-site and intervene where required
- Ensure all work is completed without compromise to quality and is delivered according to the project specifications
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports, including updates on construction status, risks, and mitigation strategies
- Maintain detailed records of pipeline specifications, inspections, and maintenance activities
- Interface and meet with 3rd parties and authority representatives as required
- Communicate technical and project issues that could impact the project to relevant stakeholders
- Collaborative work with other professionals working on the projects
- Working knowledge of the installation of underground and over ground pipeline systems and related facilities
- Be able to read and correctly interpret construction drawings
- Must be able to work outdoors for an extended period
- Plans required work activities to ensure that tools, equipment, and materials are available
- Exhibit strong leadership skills and have sound knowledge of industrial and commercial building services systems
Requirements
- Qualification: Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Mandatory experience in a similar position: 8+ Years
- Professional experience: 10 years minimum
- Experience in sour onshore gas pipelines
- In-depth knowledge of onshore gas pipeline systems and related facilities systems
- Advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural business environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Language: Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
- Previous experience in a similar work environment will be an added advantage
