mselect is looking to hire a Petrophysicist for an international oil and gas operator in Basrah. Candidates must have at least 3 years of relevant experience. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.

JOB OBJECTIVE

The primary job purpose is the evaluation of subsurface data in support of data acquisition operations for exploration, appraisal and development drilling. The petrophysicist is also required to provide technical input for the maturation of well proposals and well functional specification and the petrophysical work for well delivery planning and operations.

Key accountabilities
  • Designate as specialist in the area of Petrophysics (Formation evaluation from logs) Provide guidelines and directions to all assets on potential areas for logging program, acquisition, QC and interpretation Defines and updates workflows, methodologies and procedures for any logging issues
  • Provide technical support and advice for formation evaluation, perforation interval selection and required petrophysicist input
  • Understands and promotes the company’s health, safety & environmental policy and objectives; performs work in accordance with the company’s established rules, regulations and approved procedures
  • Works effectively with reservoir, petroleum, and drilling engineers, G&G and rig personnel
  • Participates in well planning and assists with development of pre-drill documentation packages (ie designs and provides logging program, identifies potential logging hazards, etc)
  • Performs log analysis using both quick-look methods to support real-time decision making from logs, and advanced “field study quality” interpretations using a Petrophysical workflow
  • Provides log analysis results and input to perforation and testing interval recommendations
  • Works with geoscientists and engineers to incorporate log analysis results in interpretations
  • Performs operations activities during drilling (ie pre-logging job planning with Petrophysical contractors on rig(s), training and monitoring of Petrophysical contract personnel, interface with other Geoscience, Engineering, and Drilling personnel)
  • Provides on-site supervision, QC, and analysis of wireline logging operations
  • Performs the job of core planning, core analysis both RCAL and SCAL and incorporating the results with the Log data and update the Petrophysical model for each reservoir
  • Maintains and ensures accuracy and completeness of Petrophysical databases
  • Contributes to the enhancement of existing and future Petrophysical analysis models
  • Provides input to support development of reservoir surveillance strategies
  • Participates in development of reservoir surveillance logging programs (ie develop wireline logging procedure for production, corrosion, and other rig-less cased-hole logging activity, identify potential logging hazards, etc)
  • Provides input to support development of rig based and rig-less well intervention programs
  • Provides operational and technical support for Wireline Formation Testing (MDT) acquisition programs and data analysis
  • Provides operational and technical support for Production Logging (PLT) acquisition programs and data analysis Develops scope of work for tendering of Petrophysical services and analyzes tenders
  • Monitors logging contractors and invoices processing
  • Assists with preparation and stewardship of Geoscience Group and Petroleum engineers

Criteria, Qualifications and Skills
  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Petrophysics, Geology, Physics or Engineering from an accredited and recognized university
  • Previously working in a multi-cultural and multi-nationalities team
  • Oil and gas wells design and integrity monitoring and management from conceptual and construction until abandonment
  • Experience in petrophysical standard software (advanced level): Techlog
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience with an operator with in-depth technical knowledge and capability in petrophysical studies  
  • Experience in both Clastic and Carbonate reservoirs particularly in the Middle East is an added advantage
  • Experienced in interpretation of logging, cement quality evaluation, and core analysis etc
  • Experiences in Middle East is a plus
  • Must be able to speak upper intermediate and above English Arabic is an advantage
  • Techlog software is a must 3 Other software such as IP is a plus
  • Good communication and analytical skills are essential
  • Eagerness to learn and develop own skills
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to delegate, and work with minimum supervision
  • Must have a HSSE driven mindset
  • The ability to work with people from different cultural backgrounds will be essential The position will involve working with government, vendors or partner representatives
  • Experience and good understanding of well logging, interpretation, cement qualities evaluation etc
  • Knowledge of well completion, intervention and workover procedures and regulations such as water saturation test, PLT etc
  • Good diagnostic skills are required to troubleshoot problems
  • Must be able to communicate at a technical level with various stakeholders
  • Production Technologist/Planners: well performance, analysis and well integrity
  • Reservoir Engineers: production forecasts, development planning
  • Finance/Commercial department: reporting and forecasting of produced and export volumes
  • Operations & Maintenance: system performance and optimization opportunities
  • Metering: metering and mismeasurement issues
