mselect is looking to hire a Control System Engineer for an international oil and gas operator in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 15 years’ experience as a Control Systems engineer in the oil and gas industry ideally with experience in LPG production facilities or Oil and Gas production facilities.

Job Purpose
The Control System Engineer provides technical support to the I&C team in support of Projects, Operations, and Maintenance for ICSS software and hardware. Develops/reviews detailed design deliverables for projects and supports construction and commissioning activities. Supports design reviews of external design contractor design deliverables. Provides technical support and fault finding for Operations and Maintenance ICSS-related issues. This will involve out-of-hours support as needed to maintain or restore the facility's production. The incumbent should have extensive, In-depth knowledge of Delta-V ICSS (DCS, SIS, and F&G) and Allen Bradley PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), Wonderware, and Factory Talk Scada and HMIs.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
  • Be the owner and custodian of all hardware and software associated with the Control Systems
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to resolve issues with ICSS & subsystem PLC hardware and software
  • Develop maintenance plans and schedules to ensure the ongoing reliability and performance of ICSS systems and PLC systems
  • Perform periodic inspections and testing of ICSS & subsystem PLC components to identify and address potential issues proactively
  • Manage ICSS and PLC spares and controls obsolescence program for hardware and software
  • Ensure that ICSS continuously complies with relevant security standards, safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices
  • Ensure that ICSS software and patches are kept up to date
  • Manage SAP and ICSS interfaces and communications (SAP S4HANA)
  • Perform hazard and risk assessments to identify potential safety issues and implement appropriate safety measures within the ICSS
  • Participate in safety reviews and audits to verify compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and integration of ICSS hardware and software components for minor projects and upgrades
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration with existing systems and equipment
  • Participate in the CPDG MoC (Management of Change Process)
  • Be the primary interface with support contracts
  • Conduct technical audit/verification, testing, and commissioning of ICSS to ensure proper functionality and adherence to design specifications
Continuous Improvement of Position:
  • Makes recommendations to the company's control system equipment and strategies
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement and identify and promote opportunities to improve assurance and productivity to reduce costs

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation, or related field)
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience as a Control Systems engineer in the oil and gas industry, ideally with experience in LPG production facilities or Oil and Gas production facilities
  • Demonstrable success in delivering improvements and resolving technical issues
  • Professional certification in control systems engineering or safety engineering is preferable (eg, ISA Certified Automation Professional, TÜV Functional Safety Engineer)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with the Delta-V ICSS platform and technologies
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with Allen Bradley programming platforms and various Logix500 hardware suites, such as ControlLogix, Flex Logix, CompactLogix
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working on various industrial network platforms, including Modbus, Industrial
  • Ethernet, Ethernet IP, RSnetworx for ControlNet and Device net
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with SCADA packages such as Wonderware and FactoryTalk
  • Some experience in managing small ICSS projects, upgrades from conception to completion, is preferable
  • Experience with SAP S4HANA is preferable
  • In-depth knowledge of control system principles, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), DCS (Distributed Control Systems), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) F&G (Fire and Gas), RTU (Remote Terminal Units), HMI (Human Machine Interface) and Historian
  • In-depth knowledge of system topology and control networks, RS232/485/422, Modbus, Ethernet, TCP/IP, SafetyNet, ControlNet, etc
  • Hands-on experience with Delta V ICSS and Allen-Bradley Control Logix
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISA, IEC, NFPA, API)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance in ICSS designs and operation
Special Requirements and Conditions:
  • Understanding of the MENA working environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, works well with others, courteous, and understanding of other cultures.
  • Prepared to work rotation on site in Iraq
  • Must be physically fit, able to work under severe weather conditions, and able to climb ladders and staircases to elevated work platforms to monitor/repair process equipment
