The role is responsible for managing corporate network infrastructure, including LAN (wired and wireless), MAN, WAN, fibre optics, microwave, GSM, and entertainment systems. It also oversees industrial telecommunications and critical systems such as radio systems, radio links, VHF, satellite communications, CCTV, PAGA, and access control across multiple locations, including the affiliate head office, production sites, and project facilities.
Key Activities
1. Operations:
- The incumbent is responsible for administering, configuring, and maintaining the network elements of the affiliate’s different sites: Corporate (including Telephony over IP), industrial and entertainment (radio systems, radio links, microwave, VHF, satellite links, fibre optics, CCTV, PAGA, access control, etc.)
- Monitor the systems and network performance and take the necessary measures to ensure their stability and evolution, and that they are up-to-date and comply with the company's cybersecurity policies
- Identify, troubleshoot, and solve any problems that arise with networks and telecoms systems, including root cause analysis and escalate incidents if necessary
- Maintain and recommend network installation to reduce operational costs
- Supervise, coordinate, and follow up on the activities of the external telecom suppliers and providers
- Coordinate and follow up with the authorities for the licences of the telecom systems
- Ensure the security of the data network infrastructure by implementing industry and company best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
- Develop and maintain documentation about the current environment setup, standard operating procedures, and best practices
- Maintain and recommend data network installation to reduce operational costs
- Organise, coordinate, and control all the activities related to the physical and logical installation of telecommunication networks, on both corporate and industrial sides; This includes managing projects with subcontractors
- Ensure the smooth integration of new buildings/sites in the overall network architecture, within the time and budget allocated, and in coordination with the infrastructure team on site
- Design the overall architecture for the different networks, considering cybersecurity policies and long-term evolution
- Proactively propose enhancements to the IT architecture
- Close collaboration and coordination with telecom engineers
- Ensure that the company rules and specifications are applied
- Collaborate with IT support personnel and participate in IT helpdesk support
- Cross-sharing knowledge with the other IT team members
- Ensure that the inventory of all network elements (Links, Hardware) is up-to-date and contribute to the procurement of new services, including preparation of the BOM or scope and evaluating the offers
- Regular reporting to IT management
Key Accountabilities
- The Telecom Engineer is responsible for the implementation, support and availability of the different telecom network systems on the sites under their responsibility
- Ensures HSE requirements are considered when designing, implementing, or maintaining a telecom solution; ensures zero LTI in Telecom and IT operations and project activities
- Ensures that security measures are compliant with Company recommendations and specifications, in collaboration with L-ECSO and L-ICSO
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunication engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required, with strong IT and telecommunications technical skills
- Good knowledge of various communication protocols (TCP/IP, IPSec, and wireless); equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, telephony systems and other data communication systems); and voice and collaborative systems (IP and Analogue and videoconference)
- Strong knowledge of transmission and communication systems in industrial environments (radio links, microwave, VHF, satellite links, fibre optics, CCTV, PAGA, access control, etc.)
- CCNP (routing and switching) certification required
- Other competencies: adaptability, ability to learn on the fly, enthusiasm, attention to detail
- Very good English & Arabic
