mselect is looking to hire a Petroleum Geologist for an oil and gas service client in Baghdad. Candidates must have a minimum of 5-9 years of relevant experience and be fluent in English and Arabic.
 
JOB OBJECTIVE
Petroleum geologists study the Earth’s subsurface to find oil and gas deposits. Petroleum geologists may also work with other scientists and engineers to develop new technologies or refine existing ones that will help them locate and extract these valuable resources more quickly and efficiently.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for finding hydrocarbons by analysing subsurface structures with geological and geophysical methods
  • Reviewing data from surveys conducted by geophysicists to determine potential drilling sites
  • Conducting geological surveys of regions that have been recently explored for oil or gas reserves in order to identify new drilling sites
  • Conducting laboratory analysis of soil samples to determine their chemical makeup and mineral content
  • Using computer programs to create maps of exploration sites in order to identify potential drilling locations
  • Conducting geological analyses to determine the location of petroleum deposits and their composition
  • Communicating with company management to provide updates on project status and any potential risks
  • Making recommendations to management based on findings from research projects
  • Performing geological analyses to determine the location of mineral deposits such as gold, silver, copper, and coal
  • Preparing technical reports on geological findings and presenting them to company executives
 
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5-9 years of relevant experience
  • Fluency in both Arabic and English language
Technical skills:
  • The abilities to use software, conduct research and perform calculations
Communication skills:
  • Petroleum geologists often communicate with other geologists, engineers and other professionals in the oil and gas industry
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or a related field, such as earth science, physics or chemistry
