mselect is looking to hire an Accounting Manager for a holding group in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, including 4–5 years in a managerial role, with strong experience in construction cost accounting, project cost tracking, and subcontractor account management.

Job Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations of designated business units within the Group. The role ensures financial data integrity, robust internal controls, and the effective transition of complex industrial workflows into the SAP S/4HANA environment. The position also ensures accurate and compliant financial reporting in line with Iraqi regulations and international accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Core Financial Leadership & Department Supervision:
  • Strategic Financial Governance: Lead the end-to-end accounting operations, ensuring precise month-end and year-end closings across all business units
  • Comprehensive Department Oversight: Directly supervise and manage all activities related to Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), Fixed Assets, and Inventory across the Group of Companies
  • Team Management & Development: Manage the accounting team by ensuring appropriate workflow and effective delegation of work; Set clear objectives, conduct formal and informal performance appraisals, and provide continuous feedback to maximise employee development and overall departmental performance
  • Subordinate Quality Control: Manage and control the daily acts of subordinates to quickly correct errors, ensure the strict application of financial policies, and maintain proper procedural evidence
2. Financial Operations, Controls & Compliance:
  • Multi-Sector Expertise: Apply specialised accounting treatments for different industries, including revenue recognition for Real Estate, work-in-progress (WIP) for Construction, and inventory valuation for manufacturing
  • Process Optimisation: Continuously improve financial workflows to reduce closing cycles and increase the accuracy of financial forecasting
  • Internal Control & Audit: Establish and enforce a rigorous internal control framework to safeguard group assets, monitor and resolve accounting discrepancies, and ensure "clean" external audits
  • Document & Voucher Review: Review all documents and accounting vouchers received from various departments and projects; Ensure attachment documentation is complete, includes all requisite approvals, and adequately meets regulatory and safety procedures before posting daily entries
  • System Entries & Verification: Review and verify all accounting entries and journal restrictions registered into the ERP system
  • Record Custody: Supervise the keeping of financial records, physical documents, and printed reports, ensuring they are maintained in strict compliance with the Group's approved policies and instructions
3. Accounts Payable, Payroll & Cash Management:
  • Supplier & AP Management: Supervise AP account reconciliations, review supplier statements of accounts, and monitor supplier balances to maintain strong vendor relationships
  • Voucher Processing: Oversee the daily recording of supplier vouchers and internal journal vouchers
  • Payment Execution: Monitor and execute payments according to the monthly ageing reports approved by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
  • Petty Cash: Responsible for the revision process of petty cash transactions and overseeing all related daily payments
  • Payroll Custody: Supervise the financial execution of the payroll process and ensure the secure custody of all payroll records
4. Reporting, Consolidation & Stakeholder Relations:
  • Financial Consolidation Support: Oversee intercompany reconciliations and provide high-quality financial data to the Group Finance Manager for accurate group-level reporting
  • Audit Preparation: Prepare account settlement entries in preparation for extracting monthly and annual balances, ensuring the financial statements are issued accurately and in real terms for audits
  • Cross-Departmental Support: Provide necessary financial data, reports, and system insights to other departments across the Group; Follow up with department heads regarding the effective operation and utilisation of the accounting system
  • Stakeholder Experience: Participate in and lead client-centric initiatives undertaken by the Group, enriching the stakeholder and partner experience with professionalism, respect, and dignity
  • Ad-Hoc Duties: Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of your knowledge, skills, and abilities to support the Group's financial health

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; An active professional certification (CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is highly preferred
  • Technical Accounting Expertise: Deep, hands-on knowledge of financial statement preparation, tax compliance, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Strategic Financial Management: Proven track record in complex financial modelling, comprehensive budget preparation, and detailed cash flow analysis
  • Work Experience: +10 years of accounting experience, including 4–5 years in a managerial role
  • Industry-Specific Knowledge: Substantial background in construction cost accounting, including precise tracking of project costs and subcontractor account management; Must have a strong understanding of revenue recognition and inventory accounting specifically for real estate properties constructed for sale
  • Advanced ERP Proficiency: High-level operational experience with top-tier ERP accounting modules, specifically SAP S/4HANA; Experience adapting accounting processes during system implementations or data migrations is a strong advantage
  • Language Fluency: Full professional proficiency (written and spoken) in both Arabic and English to ensure seamless global reporting and local compliance; Fluency in Kurdish is also highly preferred to support local stakeholder management
  • Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and continuously develop a high-performing accounting team
  • Advanced Analytics: Proficient in financial modelling, budgetary control, and variance analysis within a high-growth corporate environment
  • Financial Reporting: Mastery of IFRS and the ability to interpret complex financial data into actionable business insights
  • Global Mindset: Significant experience as an expatriate or working in international markets, with the ability to adapt to the business landscape in Iraq
